Welcome to Saltburn by the Sea W.I.
A modern voice for today's woman
The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
The WI is as relevant today as it was when it was launched in 1915. And it's just as radical. The WI is here to enable women like you to 'make a difference' - to the life you lead, to the community you're a part of and to the world you live in.
We can help you to expand your horizons and make new friends, take up new interests, learn new crafts and develop new skills. We offer all kinds of opportunities to all kinds of women. Our concerns range from climate change to cooking, from crafts to community projects, from healthy eating to fairtrade fortnights, from traditional values to new friendships.

A Little Bit of History about Saltburn WI
- Saltburn Women's Institute was formerly Upleatham Women's Institute
- The first committee meeting was held in March 1964
- The first president was the late Mrs B Blair
- Upleatham Women's Institute was part of Yorkshire Federation of Women's Institutes, but with the re-alignment of boundaries and the dissolving of the Yorkshire Federation, Upleatham became part of Cleveland (now Teesside Federation of Women's Institutes) in 1974.
- In 1981 due to falling numbers and transport problems the Upleatham Women's Institute endeavoured to find a more suitable venue and in 1991 moved to TOC H at Saltburn.
- Membership has grown steadily from 10 in 1991 to 48 in 2011
- The name change was sanctioned by Teesside Federation of Women's Institute
- Saltburn Women's Institute is involved in the community from tree planting, providing refreshments for "Saltburn in Bloom" to the judges, committee and helpers; friends of the Woodland Centre to the 5th Annual Craft and Produce Show, which was revived after 40 years, in association with Saltburn Allotment Association
